'Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.' A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much. To Kill a Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story, an anti-racist novel, a historical drama of the Great Depression and a sublime example of the Southern writing tradition.

Is it worth reading?
This is so good! I loved it and would totally recommend it.
It was a long time ago, but every year I get to relive the book through the MS students reenactment. it is outstanding.
To Kill a Mockingbird is an inspiring novel about the 1930s and racial inequality. The book focuses on a young girl named Jean Louise Finch, or Scout, living in a small town called Maycomb. Her father, a lawyer, gets appointed to defend a man who is convicted of rape in court. My favorite part of this book is the trial, as you get to learn more about the racial problems in the early 1900s. I would recommend this book to a mature reader who is at least a middle schooler as this book has some mature content and themes.
To Kill a Mockingbird is the ultimate best. I don't regret reading it, for it was truly amazing and an amazing story. I'm so excited for her next book to come out, for it's going to be awesome too.
