'Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.' A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much. To Kill a Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story, an anti-racist novel, a historical drama of the Great Depression and a sublime example of the Southern writing tradition.

I heard of this and it is kind of popular

This is a great book! I read this in the third grade which I would not recommend because there were many mature parts that I could not understand. But definitely a perfect book for middle schoolers.

I would love to read this!

Can't explain this book. What I thought of it: Scout is one of the only female protagonists that I don't find annoying. Dill really awesome. Jem was awesome. Atticus was awesome. The Aunt was seriously annoying. I really couldn't stand her. This book is not at all for younger kids (even though it was first read to me when I was about 8 and I'm not much older now). But this is one of my favorite books ever. Overall, this book was beautiful (and I normally don't use that kind of language).

I want to read this because my sister is reading it and she told me what it was about and i hread it was a good book

this book is an phenomenal tale that is so heartbreaking, yet believable. racism is such a horrific thing that exists in this world, and "to kill a mockingbird" really is a classic.

HAVE TO READ!

This book is really good! I read it for 8th grade summer reading and think its an amazing book! The part when they are all in court is my favorite!
