Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself. Until the Minotaur chases him to summer camp. Suddenly, mythical creatures seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. The gods of Mount Olympus, he's coming to realize, are very much alive in the twenty-first century. And worse, he's angered a few of them: Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property, and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. On a daring road trip from their summer camp in New York to the gates of the Underworld in Los Angeles, Percy and his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- will face a host of enemies determined to stop them. To succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of failure and betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

It was really hard for me to get into these books, but once I did it was okay. Some of the mythology was a little hard for me to follow. But I really like Percy. I think he's a great guy and it was exciting to follow his journey. Definitely like the book more than the movie.

The Lightning Thief is about a boy named Percy Jackson who has been diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia. Why? Simple he's a half-blood half mortal half god. So these things naturally help with fighting skills and reading greek.

This is such an amazing book! The bestselling start to the Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan uses his knowledge of Greek mythology to weave an enchanting story about the demigod son of Poseidon. Percy Jackson's life takes a quick turn as he quickly finds out his father's identity, and is accused of taking Zeus's powerful lightning bolt. And he also, according to the prophecy he received, a demigod who calls him a friend would betray him. Will he survive his first quest to the Underworld with a child of Athena and a satyr?

I thought this book was very interesting and well written. I did not think I would like the Percy Jackson books because I am not really into fiction books and they sounded kind of weird, but a friend recommended this book to me and I actually enjoyed it. This book is about a boy named Percy Jackson who, after a very strange incident, is sent to a camp for half-blooded children where he finds out his father is one of the Greek gods. After that, his whole life is turned around and he is sent on a quest with two of his frineds to save the world. As I said before, this book was very well written and it was definetly one that I did not want to set down.

so.... why only 4 stars?

Percy Jackson is a good book. It's clever, original, and a good break from the annoying books we have today. Some young readers may find it a bit scary; Percy and his friends are attacked on multiple occasions, Percy's mom suffers an unfortunate accident, and games of capture-the-flag do NOT end well. There is also some gambling; Percy and his friends visit a casino and his father drinks and gambles. However, Riordan has still crafted the perfect book; plenty of mythology and excitement, plus humor. I definitely recommend this book to loves of Greek mythology, or the parents out there looking for books for their non-readers.

This book is amazing and I definitely would recommend it. Percy Jackson, the main character, and is a half-blood, which means he is half human, half god. He is the son of Poseidon, who is the god of the seas. After Percy found out about being a half-blood, he goes to a camp for half-bloods. The rest of the story focuses on Percy's "quest" to find Zeus's lightning bolt.

12-year-old Percy Jackson is a good kid. But no matter how hard he tries he can't sit still and he can't seem to control his temper. And his life may have gone to a whole other level of weird because during a class trip to the museum he could have sworn that his teacher turned into this demon who wanted to murder him. When his mother, Sally Jackson, found out she decided to tell him the truth and send him off to Camp Half-Blood, in Long Island, where Sally knows Percy will be safe. There he finds out his father is Poseidon, Greek god of the seas. When one mystery unfolds after another, Percy sets off to the Underworld with a satyr and a daughter of Athena to prevent a brewing war between the Gods.

This is a great book. It merges Greek mythology with modern life, with contemporary demigods, ancient gods, and monsters. Riordan has created lovable characters and a plot that never stops moving along. I read it once when I was around 8 and another time when I was 11, and both times it was a really good read. I recommend it to anyone interested in mythology and/or fantasy.
