House of Secrets: Battle of the Beasts

House of Secrets: Battle of the Beasts

By Chris Columbus, Ned Vizzini

While I reviewed it a few weeks ago I forgot to dive in to the details, and I think I should since it's a very fun interesting book. First I want to say thank you, second of all this book is like the Unfortunate Event series, Percy Jackson series, and a little bit with the 5th Wave. It has some in-depth knowledge into it, that keeps you in suspense, but while there is a lot going on. It was jammed with influences of nature and full packed action with some violence. I was surprised how the House of Secrets and Battle of the Beasts were a bit different, by the way it was narrated. But I reread it again and I thought Battle of the Beasts was more suited and it closed it all in with the series, than the House of Secrets. All the kids: Brendan, Cordelia, and Eleanor struggle to fit in their new school. While the wind witch is no longer there forever, but Denver Kristoff ( His name reminds me of the movie Frozen :) sorry that's what I was thinking about his last name), the dad of the wind witch, is looking for his daughter who is banished. DUN DUN DUNNNN... Bringing her back means everything will come rushing back as last time as their last adventure, but even worse...the Walker family will need protection and is no longer safe. Like they visit the Colosseum in one of Kristoff's story, and in his story if a girl saves a gladiator then she gets to marry him, which is what happened to Cordelia, she had to marry Felix, and I just started laughing. That's one of the tidbits that I thought was funny, when they were time traveling. Close to the end they say many farewell goodbyes. The Walker's also gets to know their future or a possibility of it, by the wind witch if they choose her. The wind witch officially lost everything even Brendan, Cordelia, and Eleanor when they chose the true Door of Ways, as it comes to the end the Walker family lost the money so they had to move back. They talk about how they felt and what there future might be, but there comes a little surprise, I'll give you a clue it's a sixty story giant... guess who... I had a great time devouring the pages and you SHOULD READ it!!!! Also rest in peace Ned Vizzini, your series will carry on for sure because of how well these series merged on and perfectly fitted together.

House of Secrets

House of Secrets

By Chris Columbus, Ned Vizzini

Here’s my review for House of Secrets. Enjoy! The Walker family is in a situation. Dr. Walker, the dad lost his job after cutting an eye shape into a patient’s chest with a knife at his hospital. Now they live in a small apartment, and are looking for a house. They find the huge Kristoff House, over-looking the Golden Gate Bridge, built after the San Francisco earthquake by Denver Kristoff, a well-known author. They move in, and they are in the middle of dinner when a woman knocks on the door that claims she is their neighbor. She then turns into a creature known as the Wind Witch, and tears the home apart. The three kids; Brendan, Eleanor and Cordelia wake up after the hurricane-like disaster with their parents gone; and so is San Francisco. In a fast-paced adventure story, the Walker kids are trapped in three of Denver Kristoff’s books. With pirates, a pilot from World War I and a colossus, the Walkers need to figure out how to defeat the Wind Witch and get back home before it is too late and they are the ones destroyed. Will the Walkers make it home safely, or will that be the end of them? What I thought about it: Wow. Two master storytellers coming together really does make an epic adventure. I really enjoyed House of Secrets; it keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. You are pretty much drooling for more, thinking, What is going to happen next?!?! I loved the idea of being able to live in a book. I mean, who wouldn’t want to do that? Well, you would be able to be killed by, say, Voldemort, or in this case a very evil gang of pirates; that would not be good. I also love the cover illustration by Greg Call; it totally lives up to the book. The action was spectacular in this book, as was the suspense. I look forward to reading more adventures with the Walkers, and I want to give a shout-out to Ned Vizzini who generously sent me an ARC of this book to me in very cool promotional packaging that looks like The Book of Doom And Desire and is a gem on my bookshelf. Ned and Chris, your writing is fabulous together and I hope you write many more books as a team.

The Dragon's Descent (An Ether Novel)

The Dragon's Descent (An Ether Novel)

By Laurice Elehwany Molinari

I love this book and all three books! I had to wait for a year for this book to come out after the Pillars of fire. I think The dragons descent is the best book yet. Vero has to finish his training and go on an important mission - with hsi sister and even Tack! Some parts are scary, and some parts made me laugh, and the end made me so sad. I wish there are going to be more books. These are my favrite books ever.
