Guts
By Raina Telgemeier
A true story from Raina Telgemeier, the #1 New York
Times bestselling, multiple Eisner Award-winning author of
Smile, Sisters,
Drama, and Ghosts!
Raina wakes up one night with a terrible upset stomach. Her mom has one, too, so it's probably just a bug. Raina eventually returns to school, where she's dealing with the usual highs and lows: friends, not-friends, and classmates who think the school year is just one long gross-out session. It soon becomes clear that Raina's tummy trouble isn't going away... and it coincides with her worries about food, school, and changing friendships. What's going on?
Raina Telgemeier once again brings us a thoughtful, charming, and funny true story about growing up and gathering the courage to face -- and conquer -- her fears.

I like it but its sad
This is an awesome graphic novel that tells the story about a girl in 5th grade named Raina. Raina has digestive issues that usually occur when she is worried. It gets worse when the other girls in her class tease her. When she finds out that her best friend will be moving she thinks that her best friend is lucky because her best friend will not have to go to school with the girls who tease Raina. Raina's best friend thinks Raina is the lucky one. This book is based on Raina Telgemier's actual experience as a kid. I would recommend this book for 3-5 graders.
I have this book and I love it
This book is great
Raina is a girl who is in 5th grade and worries a lot. She has bad digestive problems because of this. She is afraid of the word vomit and vomiting itself. There is a girl who gives her a lot of trouble and this only adds to her worries making her stomach problems worse. Finally, her parents think it is time to give her therapeutic help and they take her to a therapist who tries to talk to her about her feelings, but Raina won't say anything. After a few weeks, she finally tells her therapist how she is afraid of vomit and how that girl is making fun of her. Her therapist urges her to try to calm herself down by taking deep breaths and to try different foods and to see what foods agree with her and which ones don’t. She then conquers the other challenges in her life and even makes friends with that mean girl. I found this book really showed exactly what Raina was feeling at that moment. This book is also really unique because you don't find nonfiction books that are also comics. No wonder this book is really popular!
