"Chains" tells us about the importance of loyalty, friendship and trust. I like this book because it taught me about historical stuff and I learned a lot about slavery and how cruel it is. When Isabel and her sister, Ruth, are sent to a wealthy family as slaves, they become trapped in their "chains." Basically I think this book is a whole giant metaphor which can also be used in today's society, which made it really relatable for me. Like Isabel, a lot of people today are trapped inside the bonds of modern society which makes it impossible to be ourselves. Also, this book tells us about loyalty, because when Isabel meets a boy named Curzon who will change her life forever, she has to decide where her loyalties lie. I really like this book because the characters are very relatable as well. They are bright, clever and think out of the box. Must read!

Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson is about a thirteen year old, Isabel and her younger sister Ruth. The story takes place in New York during the revolutionary war in America. Isabel and her sister are orphaned slaves for The Locktons. Rich and strong supporters of the King. Unsympathetic for the patriots and even less to Isabel and her sister. Isabel yearns for freedom and must break her strong "chains" of slavery. Isabel meets a boy named Curzon, a salve with connections with the patriots, offers her with he opportunity to spy on her owners for details about an expected British invasion. When Isabel's life changes she must decide where her loyalty lays and who can provide her freedom and help her break her "chains." I enjoyed this book and would recommend it for it's wonderful details!
so far this is the best book ive ever read I really don't like how jenny is treated by mrs.lockton just because she works at the restaurant.
it is a hard book with many suprises.i learned many words and lessons from this book. the story line was beleivable and good.

This was an awesome book. So, Isabel, and her sister Ruth are black orphans, and they are slaves. This is set into the time of the Revolution, so she gets sold to Loyalists (people who want the king to win), and so her mistress is very cruel to her. A boy called Curzon wants her to spy on the family for him, to help the Patriots. At first Isabel doesn't want to do it, but it becomes something she must do. Then, her Mistress sells Ruth, and so Isabel is on her own now. (She later realizes that her mistress did not sell Ruth.) When Curzon joins the army, and the British take over New York, it gets worse and worse. In the end, Isabel escapes with Curzon. WARNING: This is not for the fainthearted, or for people who absolutely cannot stand war.
Chains is an intense book about a slave girl named Isabel, and her sister Ruth. They are sold to a mistress who is very unkind to them. It is one of my favorites, but it is sad and reality filled. This has a few real characters, but mostly fictional.
