This Newbery Medal winner that has a fantastic puzzle at its heart has been called “smart and mesmerizing,” (The New York Times), “superb” (The Wall Street Journal), and “incandescent” (The Washington Post).

When Miranda starts receiving mysterious notes, she doesn’t know what to do.

The notes tell her that she must write a letter, a true story, and that she can’t share her mission with anyone—not even her best friend, Sal.

It would be easy to ignore the strange messages, except that whoever is leaving them has an uncanny ability to predict the future. If that’s the case, then Miranda has an even bigger problem—because the notes tell her that someone is going to die, and she might be too late to stop it.

I would describe this book as thrilling, a page turner, and mysterious. I would recommend this book because it had so many unpredictable parts. I really liked the main character because she kept me questioning what was going on the whole time.

I loved how confusing it was and how the book sort of made you really think until the last few chapters!

I loved the idea of all the suspense and I was so intrigued by the fact that the laughing man was from the future and at first I thought that the laughing man could be her father because the book she read was about time travel and in the book the girl finds her father.

this is a mystery, i love mysteries. all of rebecca steads books are great, but this ons stands out. Do you believe in time travel? or mystery theives? read this book!

This is my favorite book in the world! It is so mysterious and I DO think that throughout the book it's very confusing, but at about the last 6 chapters, all the pieces get put together and it is just so amazing.

I love this book so much! It is definitely one of the best novels I've ever read. Miranda's story is so touching and well-written, and in many parts of the book, I could completely relate to her. The time travel part of the story is a bit confusing at first, but that's what makes it so completely interesting and fascinating. I would strongly recommend this book!

It was confusing at the part of time travel but I really enjoyed the book overall. There were some parts of the story in which you could relate to yourself.

This is a mystery with an ending you definately won't expect.

I have read this with two of my classes over the past few years. My students always seem to enjoy it and are always surprised by the ending.
