In her own singularly beautiful style, Newbery Medal winner Sharon Creech intricately weaves together two tales, one funny, one bittersweet, to create a heartwarming, compelling, and utterly moving story of love, loss, and the complexity of human emotion.

Thirteen-year-old Salamanca Tree Hiddle, proud of her country roots and the "Indian-ness in her blood," travels from Ohio to Idaho with her eccentric grandparents. Along the way, she tells them of the story of Phoebe Winterbottom, who received mysterious messages, who met a "potential lunatic," and whose mother disappeared.

As Sal entertains her grandparents with Phoebe's outrageous story, her own story begins to unfold—the story of a thirteen-year-old girl whose only wish is to be reunited with her missing mother.

i'm almost finished with this book and it's really good. i like Gram and Gramps, their really funny and energetic! It's a sad but great story! :)

I read this book a few years ago, and thought it was great! It's a bit sad, however. I love the plot and the characterization that could really put a picture in your mind. I's a Newbery Award winner, so that also tells you how good it is.

this is a great book i read it as a read aloud in 3grade i dont remember much but it is about a girl riding in a car telling a long story about her life

I read this book for class but even though we happen assigned pages I was very, very tempted to finish the book.

this is an awesome book but it is kinda confusing because it switches back and fourth between parts but it still is great

This is a great book! It's all about a girl named Sal and her trip to Idahoe to supposedly see her mother. On the way, she's telling a real story that happened to her about a peculiar girl named Phoebe. In this book, you are constantly trying to infer what happened to her mother. It's a great book for classes who are learning about inferences and symbols - because there's ALOT! Filled with giggles, hope, and tears.
