Since his mother’s death six years ago, Carter Kane has been living out of a suitcase, traveling the globe with his father, the brilliant Egyptologist Dr. Julius Kane. But while Carter’s been homeschooled, his younger sister, Sadie, has been living with their grandparents in London. Sadie has just what Carter wants — school friends and a chance at a “normal” life. But Carter has just what Sadie longs for—time with their father. After six years of living apart, the siblings have almost nothing in common. Until now.
On Christmas Eve, Sadie and Carter are reunited when their father brings them to the British Museum, with a promise that he’s going to “make things right.” But all does not go according to plan: Carter and Sadie watch as Julius summons a mysterious figure, who quickly banishes their father and causes a fiery explosion.
Soon Carter and Sadie discover that the gods of Ancient Egypt are waking, and the worst of them—Set—has a frightening scheme. To save their father, they must embark on a dangerous journey—a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family and its links to the House of Life, a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs.

Love this book. So exciting and intense in some parts! :D
I love this book so far! Very exciting and intense at some parts :P
Carter and Sadie were siblings, but they haven't been living together since the death of their mom from 6 years ago. One night, their father brought them to the British Museum, promising to set things right for their family. Unfortunately, an explosion unleashed all five gods. They are Horus, Isis, Osiris, Set, and Nephthys. Carter and Sadie had to go on a dangerous quest to southwest America, to save their father and stop Set from destroying everything. This is a compelling book, although the adventure plot is not very innovative, but the author had done it really well. I really like this book and I want to recommend it to everyone.
It was a very good book. It had a good storyline and plot. I have read books that just skipped around really fast but, this one is better.
It was a very good book it tells you about Egyptian stuff and shows you some of the symbols, spells, and stuff and what they mean and do.
Set in the same word as Percy Jackson, this book focuses on Egyptian mythology rather than Greek. In this book, siblings Sadie and Carter Kane have to save the U.S from the god of evil, Set. This book had its similarities and differences from PJO. The main, I would say, this book has two narrators. The main similarity is that in both series, the main characters are forced to travel to different parts of the country with a mythical creature to stop a god from doing something that would be harmful for the mortals, with an ending that leaves us wanting more. I recommend this to whoever wants good book for a rainy day.
This is a really great book, as are the other two books in the Kane Chronicles. Really, what could you expect from a Rick Riordan book? I love this book and its companions!
Another one of Rick Riordan's awesome books. This book blends reality with myths, and I reccomend this book to EVERYONE. These characters are funny and feisty, brave and courageous. A must-read.
My mom made me read this book for a book group even though I thought it did not look interesting AT ALL. When I finally picked up the book to read I was hooked before the end of the first chapter. I love how at the end of every chapter the author made you want to read the next one right away. Great book!
