Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself. Until the Minotaur chases him to summer camp. Suddenly, mythical creatures seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. The gods of Mount Olympus, he's coming to realize, are very much alive in the twenty-first century. And worse, he's angered a few of them: Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property, and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. On a daring road trip from their summer camp in New York to the gates of the Underworld in Los Angeles, Percy and his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- will face a host of enemies determined to stop them. To succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of failure and betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

So good a few mistakes though like not much Similes, and Metaphors.

This book was really good and so was the movie! If you haven't read this book and you're into monsters and Greek mythology, this book is for you!

Nobody Nobody

Out of all of Rick Riordan's series, this is my favorite! Percy Jackson is a teenage kid who doesn't have a normal life. In one day, he finds out that his long lost dad is the Greek God of the sea (Poseidon), his math teacher is a monster, his Latin teacher is his hero, his best friend is a goat man, his ballpoint pen is a sword, and Camp Half-Blood. And this is just the beginning.

best book series ever! i had to read the first book for school, i finished the series way before my class read the first book!

I loved this book we did it as a class project and it was really fun I really enjoyed it and I am sure that you will too if you like ancient gods and fantasy books it is definitely your book!!!!!

The Lightning Thief is a must-read for Harry Potter and Greek Mythology fans alike. Percy Jackson is your typical 12 year old kid, hanging out with friends, doing good in school, and never getting expelled once. Yeah, not so much... Percy is actually a son of the Greek god Poseidon, and he was wrongly blamed for stealing Zeus's Master Bolt and Hades's Helm of Darkness. Will he find the mythological items before the Summer Solstice and prevent the beginning of World War Three? I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good laugh, and anyone who enjoys Harry Potter and Greek Myths!

Ummm... He is doing badly in school, and he has been expelled 8 times since Starting school.

i love the percy jackson books their awesome im currently reading Book 3 : The Titan's Curse

The best book ever

This book is a great book for all. I recommend it to anyone who likes Harry Potter, or other Fantasy books. This book is the first book of a five book series, and this series also has 2 other connected series by the same author. This book has around 350 pages. I loved it!!!
