Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself. Until the Minotaur chases him to summer camp. Suddenly, mythical creatures seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. The gods of Mount Olympus, he's coming to realize, are very much alive in the twenty-first century. And worse, he's angered a few of them: Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property, and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. On a daring road trip from their summer camp in New York to the gates of the Underworld in Los Angeles, Percy and his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- will face a host of enemies determined to stop them. To succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of failure and betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

If you're looking for adventure then The Lightning Thief is the book you'll want to read. Rick Riordan perfectly balances humour and action into this must read book and will not disappoint. Percy Jackson is a very long series that I (and many others) just devoured; it will make you want to keep reading and reading until you finish reading the series and wanting more of his brilliant masterpieces. This book would be classified as Greek Mythology/Fiction, and will really help you learn more about people's beliefs (something that makes learning fun!) This piece of Fiction is portrayed through a first-person view and narrative which keeps you on edge (along with Rick Riordan's trademark cliffhangers) and is what makes the book so tantalizing and addictive. This is my favourite series and everyone HAS to read this series or else they haven't completed their childhood. 5/5 stars and recommended for ages 9+ this book was by far one of the best books I have ever read. Happy Readings, bean_boy

I'm so attached to this book! I got into Greek mythology and didn't stop reading and learning!

Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief is a great book. First, at Yancy academy, they go on a field trip. That is where Percy first learns that Mrs. Dodds is not a teacher but a Fury, Kindly One, whatever you want to call it. As the story goes on, Percy meets more monsters, dealing with each of them hilariously. My favorite part was when Percy deceived Procrustes(Crusty). Altogether, it was a great book.

This is the original series by this author, and is a must have for any mythology lover. It a unique take on the Greek myths, and is way more interesting than the Odessy ( which I have started but failed to finish three times). If you are into any type of fantasy books, this series is a must read.

I love this book so much. I read the whole series and I just want more. I think it's a good reincarnation of Greek Gods and I find greek mythology very interesting.
