Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Collins delivers equal parts suspense and philosophy, adventure and romance, in this searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present.

it is full of wonder

so far I'm up to chapter 2 and I've seen the movie and i think its rely rely awsome. love it

“I volunteer as tribute!” Katniss Everdeen lives in District 12, a part of Panem, a Capitol surrounded by 12 districts that have to participate in the annual hunger games, a fight to the death with two tributes from each district in a vast arena. And when Katniss’ sister Prim’s name gets called, she volunteers to take her place. So the hunger games begin, and the tributes begin to form alliances, trying to stay alive. In a fast-paced adventure novel, Suzanne Collins writes a book that will get readers hooked. What I thought about it: I really enjoyed this book. There is so much action and suspense that it is hard to put down. The plot is really well-written, and the characters are very unique. I love dystopian books, and I am sad that I have put this book off for so long. Dystopian is one of my favorite genres because of the fantasy and creative new worlds that the authors create. The hunger games seem so surreal, but the author made it seem real with the world of Panem that she created. I can not wait to read the next two books. I just saw the movie, and it was really great compared to the book. They left out some minor things, but you can’t be exact to the book; then the movie would be too long. I can’t wait to see Catching Fire!

I had to read this series to keep up with my students. It was not normally something I would have chosen unless it was already popular. I do like the idea of the story because it is futuristic, perhaps a warning of what could happen. I identified with Katniss and always cheered for her and feared for her.
