Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

This book is so awesome!!! You have to read it!! This is a dystopian novel about the country of Panem, which is in what used to be North America. The Capital of Panem is very rich and powerful, and they like to prove it. Years before the time this novel is set in, there was a fight between the Capital and the 13 districts of Panem. The Capital won, and District 13 was eliminated. To remind the districts of its power, the Capital requires a boy and a girl, each between the ages of 12 and 18, to fight in the Hunger Games, which is a fight to the death. The last one standing gets to go home to a big, fancy home and a year's worth of food. Katniss Everdeen is 16, and her beloved younger sister, Prim, is 12. They live in District 12. Prim is chosen for the girl, but Katniss, an experienced hunter, volunteers instead. Peeta Mellark is the boy. When they finally get to the Capital, soon before they go into the arena, Peeta reveals his love for Katniss. Unfortunately, there can only be one victor, and there are 22 other contestants. Who will win? Read the book to find out!!
