In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Collins delivers equal parts suspense and philosophy, adventure and romance, in this searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present.

I can't wait for the new hunger games caching fire i seen it on the previus it looked pretty entersting although it a is for ages 10 and up. I recomend this book to a friend
Although the Hunger Games is an interesting book, I am afraid I cannot say the same about the movie or the series as a whole. The book is very well-written. There are a few things that I wouldn't suggest for the younger audience, such as the violence, but if you do happen to read it, be prepared to get sucked into the beautiful yet dangerous world of Suzanne Collins. She has created a world with her words so vivid that I was mind blown. It has a great beginning and middle and ending, with very human characters. This book shows how humans can be both merciless and merciful under certain circumstances. It reminds us that heroes do not have to be perfect in order to be heroes. I think that the first movie is worth skipping if you are only interested in the book, as the movie missed a lot of important details and add-ons that made the book such an enjoyable read. I would, though recommend the movie Catching Fire, as it seems like it is more correct and looks better.
