It's a perfect world, where everything looks right. But ugly truths lie beneath…

Imagine a world without poverty, war or pain. A world where everything is comfortable and familiar - a world where everything is the same. No colour, no music. In such a world, Jonas is selected to be the next Receiver of Memory and is apprenticed to the Giver, an old man who stores memories from the Community’s past. As Jonas learns about violence and sadness, as well as beauty and joy, he discover the sinister truth behind his safe existence.

Simply and beautifully written, The Giver is a thought-provoking look at utopian society. It was awarded the Newbery Medal in 1994.

This book was not a book that I originally wanted to read. I only read it because it was assigned as in class reading. I definitely recommend this book.It is a very good book with a mysterious ending.I guarantee that you would enjoy it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I really want to read the book. Every single book I read that they made a movie about was so much better then the book. That's why I want to read it.

It is awesome

was super duper awesome though just sayin there has been better

Twelve year old Jonas has been chosen to become the new Receiver of Memory. He meets the Giver of memories, and in the beginning, thinks his job is fun. But is there always happy memories?

I am reading it now

It was pretty good, but not what I was expecting!

It is a classic/dystopian book by Lois Lowry (there's also a movie). My teacher in 5th grade told me about it, and i loved it! It's about a "perfect" world, where there is no violence (but no experience in things such as pain, love, warmth, cold, etc.). But...

Jonas is a regular kid, as long as you DON'T count he is the new Receiver of Memory.

The movie is so not as good as the book but that's just me.
