It's a perfect world, where everything looks right. But ugly truths lie beneath…

Imagine a world without poverty, war or pain. A world where everything is comfortable and familiar - a world where everything is the same. No colour, no music. In such a world, Jonas is selected to be the next Receiver of Memory and is apprenticed to the Giver, an old man who stores memories from the Community’s past. As Jonas learns about violence and sadness, as well as beauty and joy, he discover the sinister truth behind his safe existence.

Simply and beautifully written, The Giver is a thought-provoking look at utopian society. It was awarded the Newbery Medal in 1994.

It was an okay book. But towards the end it gets way better.

The Giver was an amazing book! Lois Lowry is a great writer. The book talks about Jonas, an 11, soon to be 12 year old that lives in an idyllic community. In the community you are given your job spouse and children. You have no choice, no freedom. But, Jonas is very different. He is given a special assignment......a painful assignment that allows him to see the flaws in the delicate system of the community.

This book looks really cool! Plus, they made a movie about it, making it more tempting for me than ever before. :D

My mom told me about the giver and it seems interesting

I decided to read this book for my class. I thought the story was thought provoking and it really made me ponder my life. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to reflect on the world around them.

This book was awesome but very sad! This was definitely a one of the harder to understand books I've read! I recommend this book to anyone over 12 because some parts get a little sad and it can be confusing at some points. If you liked this book I recommend Gathering blue which is another book by Lois Lowry, It has the same "dystopia" kind of theme.

I loved this book. I thought the characters were well developed and it was really thought provoking!
