I love this book everyone should read it. hint They have powers lol

Mississippi "Mibs" Beaumont is very special. On her 13th birthday, she'll get a power, like the rest of her family. Things take a turn for the worst when Mibs' dad gets into an accident and hen into a coma on the day before her birthday. Mibs, not one to sit around and wait, hatches a plan to go and see her dad at the hospital. She had hoped that her savvy (her power) would help her save her dad, but she is very disappointed when she finds out her savvy is to talk to ink on people. Her, her brother, and a kid named Will Jr. and his sister Bobbi go and take a bus to visit her dad in the hospital. She has a grand adventure and when she gets there, she realizes that her savvy isn't that bad after all, because she can communicate with her dad using the ink. This book is amazing, I can definitely tell why it is a Newbury Medal winner!

I recommend this book. It tells the story of a girl who's family have special powers obtained at 13, called their savvy. It takes place on her 13th birthday, and she finds out her savvy.

This book was super great. Mississippi Beaumont is a girl with her problems to deal with like everyone in the world has their own set of conflicts they have to figure out. The problems Mississippi (a.k.a Mibs) has to figure out are tougher. She's turning thirteen-the age of which all the Beaumont children receive their savvy-their special ability. But that birthday wasn't like your typical thing you would think of because you'd think that all Beaumont's thirteenth birthdays were cursed with all the mess-ups from the past of Mibs's older siblings. Before he birthday, a heavy burden falls on her when her family is called to report her father was involved in a truck accident and was still unconscious in the Salina Hospital. That's when her mom and her oldest brother, Rocket with a savvy of electricity, take off to Salina leaving behind a family friend to watch over the remaining children including Mibs. On the day of her birthday, Mibs just by coincidence wakes up her younger sister, Gyspy, and her brother's hibernating turtle. This all misleads Mibs thinking that her savvy was waking other people/animals wake up. The thirteen year-old gets an idea of using her savvy to save her father which just throws her and a bunch of others into a tangle of problems and adventures. But an adventure is an adventure. An adventure has its share of difficulties and surprises with their secrets. As the book continues on, slowly Mibs starts realizing that her savvy wasn't what she really thought of it to be. It wasn't something that was going to save her father, but it was going to save someone else that was just as important. She starts figuring out that her true savvy is whenever someone has ink on their skin, she can read their minds. This discovery was not a good thing. So Mibs, couldn't wake her father up with her savvy, but she helped other people with their problems. She helps someone realize that they're not cooped up like a kid anymore and that they're free to do what they want to do. She helps her own brother find his color of paint to control and tone down his wild savvy of hurricanes. I won't tell you what happens with her and her fellow travelers, Bobbi and Will Junior (Miss. Rosemary's children-or are they?), her second oldest brother fish, and her younger brother Samson. I won't tell who they meet along the way. I don't want you to read this summary and think you know all about the story. I want you to wonder what's going to happen. I want you to find the book and open up the book and read. Because a thrilling story awaits you waiting to be read, waiting to share the magic of mysteries and secrets, and to tell you that everyone has a talent to show the world that will help others, especially you.

Awesome review, candyexpress :D

I loved this book it was so awesome. The names are pretty one of a kind with Rocket, Mississippi, Fish, and other ones.

"Climbing into bed on the night before my very own most important birthday, after an evening of Miss Rosemary's meat loaf and interference, I did not pray for a powerful savvy like Rocket's or X-Ray vision or the ability to run super-fast or to breathe underwater. I had just two simple wishes - the first one was for Father to be alright and the second wish, the second wish was that no one - no one - would come to my birthday party." Mibs Beaumont is no ordinary teenager. From her brother Rocket who can control electricity to her brother Fish who can control water telepathically, each member of her family has a special power - a savvy. Mibs had always wished for a powerful savvy, like Fish's savvy and Rocket's savvy. But disaster struck when her father was injured severely in a car crash, and there's no way to tell if he's going to live or not. All Mibs wishes for on her thirteenth birthday (the number 13 is important in this story because it's always when a member of the Beaumont family gets their savvy) is to have a savvy that can wake her Papa up. But when the interfering and meddlesome priest's wife, Ms. Rosemary, plans a birthday party for Mibs in the church (with almost every teenager and child in the town attending), Mibs believes that her savvy is waking up people and animals because she thought she woke up her little brother Samson's turtle and her baby sister in the morning. But more importantly, maybe her savvy is saving Papa! Mibs climbs onto a tour bus delivering pink Bibles, with Fish, Samson, and the priest's kids, Will and Bobbi in tow. The tour bus is driven by Lester Swan, who has a weak heart and can't say no when the kids tell him that Mibs is going to see her father in a hospital in Kansas. But as she hears tattoos on Bobbi and Lester begin to move and talk, Mibs learns that her savvy is just making ink-based marks on skin speak and move. Now they're in serious trouble - her savvy isn't going to wake up Papa after all! As they travel on towards the hospital, Lester picks up Lill Kiteley, a kind, fun woman who's car was broken down and she couldn't get to her job in a restaurant, so Lester offers to drive her there. On the long way to the restaurant and hospital (getting delayed, huh..) the children and the adults warm to each other and they become a sort of a family. But do some of the characters have secrets? Will's hiding something from Mibs, what is it? Is Bobbi such a tough, harsh girl on the inside? Do Will and Mibs have "feelings" for each other? And what happens when the police catches up and thinks Lill and Lester kidnapped the children? How will they ever get to the hospital now? And if they get there, will Mibs' papa ever wake up? Hmm.. I don't know quite what to say about this particular book. It made tears well up and drop on the pages, because it was so sad. In some bits, it made me laugh jubilantly because it seemed like they finally got their happy ending. This book was full of many twists and turns and it surprised me so many times! I love that Mibs is a strong, independent, witty, reckless, and overall amazing character. These are characters you'd see once in a lifetime in books - they are so defined, they have their own personalities, they seem so "alive" and three-demensional.. I love the relationships between the different characters too... most of the characters are great role models, since they are kind, charismatic, and plain funny sometimes! :giggles: But most of all, it made me cry - it wasn't particularly a sad book, but it made me really sad because I could relate, and I knew all the problems Mibs was going through. It seemed so realistic that I wanted to reach out and comfort her. In the end, the lesson was that EVERYONE is special in your own way - you all have savvies. It doesn't have to cause earthquakes, control electricity, or make you fly. It just shows who you are and you should be proud of that. It is a charming book about uniqueness, faith, and growing up. Read! It just might change the way you look at the world :)

Haha, thanks! You should - and I think it's part of the Summer Reading list (hint, hint) or it's pretty common in local libraries, so you can hunt for it there :D

Wow, great review! I want to read it!

I LOVE THIS BOOK I GOING GET BOOK 2

This book was really good. It is about a girl named Mississippi, and she goes to see her father in the hospital, thinking her savvy can help him. She rides over hundreds of miles as a stowaway on a pink bus, and gets descovered. Along the way, she learns a lot about family, trust, and friendship. What will happen? Read the book to find out.
