As the German troops begin their campaign to "relocate" all the Jews of Denmark, 10-year-old Annemarie Johansens's family takes in annemaries' best friend, Ellen Roxen, and pretend she is part of the family. Ellen and Annemarie must htink quickly when three Nazi officers arrive late one night and question why Ellen is not blond, like her sisters. Through Annemaries' eyes, we see the Danish Resistance as they manage to smuggle almost the entire Jewish population, nearly seven thousand people, across the sea to Sweden. In this tale of an entire nation's heroism, Lois Lowry reminds us that there is pride and human decency in the world even during a time of terror and war.

yay yay

lois lowry ROCKS

This book to me has a happy ending but the book it itself is sad. I read this in fourth grade while we were studying the holocaust. Adolf Hitler is a hater. A lot more people were killed by him and his army. In order to survive you had to have blond hair and blue eyes. Luckily someone who had a warm heart, named Shindler, was able to save some of them by making a fake list of who they wanted. Hitler was told by him that they would be taken into custody to work until they die. He lied. In a matter of fact he saved their lives. Nazis are bad people. One man became one and then he got married. We still have one more Nazi in this world to knock out. When the people had to be freed then they were furious. They kept them. When the soldoies were coming then they started to kill the people in the camps as well as themselves. Some of them took capsuls, some filled the pipes with gas, some shot themselves. Adolf Hitler and his wife went and stood on train tracks and let trains hit them. Very little people survived.

Yeah Hitler was so... Bad... He had a stone heart. And that's putting it mildly
