This book is very accurate because all the information in the book was very well researched and the story is very correct in pointing out the time. I also like how the author did a very good job to make the story exciting. In 1943, during World War II, it was a really serious time in Europe when the country was under German control and the Nazis have just invaded Denmark. Since Ellen and her family are Jewish, they have to get away from Denmark. This book talks about true courage; you know something is dangerous, but you overcome your fear and worries and still do it. My favorite part of the book is the dialogue of the characters because it makes story more vivid. For example, when the Annemarie is talking about Resistance fighters, the Danish people who stood up to the Nazis. I will recommend this book to age about 10 years old boys and girls, because it teaches them to be brave and also a little history of World War II.
I rated it 5/5 because the story is very realistic and interesting. The story takes place around the time of the Holocaust and the main character's friends were Jews and it was a dangerous time for them. Annemarie helped her friend to escape and she was very brave even in dangerous situations. I like the book because it showed us the lives of the Jews during the Holocaust and how they were feeling during that time. I enjoyed the story because the author let us understand how Annemarie was feeling during each event and included events that made me very nervous and not sure what would happen next. I would recommend this book to others.
This book is about living through war. Annemarie tried to pretend that her best friend, Ellen, is her sister and hide her from the Nazis because Ellen is Jewish. But the Nazis think that something is wrong. They think that they are safe, but something is about to happen. This book is very emotional and also recreates the scene of World War II. My favorite character is Annemarie because she is very brave and took the risk to save her best friend. I recommend this book to people who like to read about people living in different time periods and been through different historical events.
I loved this book because it was sad and happy at the same time!! It was amazing because they worked so hard for them!
This book is the example and life of the people that lived in the war and fought through it. This is the most thoughtful book made in decades.
two words, REALLY GOOD!!!!! read it
Personally i love this book. It was amazing and it actually reminded me about how horrible the Nazi were
This was an amazing book about a girl named Annemarie Johansen. Annemarie has to pretend that her best friend, Ellen, is her sister. But, as time goes on, it gets more dangerous for the Johansens to hide the Jewish girl. The Nazis are getting more and more suspicious and they're doing more and more to get the Jews out of Denmark. The Johansens are doing all they can to hide Ellen and keep her safe, but when the Nazis take the names of all the Jews from the temple, Ellen is no longer safe. Annemarie's mother decides to take Annemarie, her little sister, and Ellen to Annemarie's Uncle's house. They have fun with the animals and enjoy country life while they're there. But when the truth of why they're there is revealed, they realize their very lives are in grave danger.
This was an amazing book! I loved it!
