As the German troops begin their campaign to "relocate" all the Jews of Denmark, 10-year-old Annemarie Johansens's family takes in annemaries' best friend, Ellen Roxen, and pretend she is part of the family. Ellen and Annemarie must htink quickly when three Nazi officers arrive late one night and question why Ellen is not blond, like her sisters. Through Annemaries' eyes, we see the Danish Resistance as they manage to smuggle almost the entire Jewish population, nearly seven thousand people, across the sea to Sweden. In this tale of an entire nation's heroism, Lois Lowry reminds us that there is pride and human decency in the world even during a time of terror and war.

I picked the book because the topic of "Natzi life". This book is about a little girl who faces many obstacles on her way to freedom. She loses family and gains a friend.

I just started this book yesterday. I wonder how it will be for the young girls, Annemarie, Ellen, and Kirsti in World War II (WW II). I'm very curious and worried about this book. Would they be brave and courageous to fight with the soldiers? Would the die?

this is a really good example of what happened to people during this time period

I think Lois Lowry did an amazing job with writing this historical fiction. I would suggest anyone read it. It made me want to cry buckets and buckets of tears. So good!
