As the German troops begin their campaign to "relocate" all the Jews of Denmark, 10-year-old Annemarie Johansens's family takes in annemaries' best friend, Ellen Roxen, and pretend she is part of the family. Ellen and Annemarie must htink quickly when three Nazi officers arrive late one night and question why Ellen is not blond, like her sisters. Through Annemaries' eyes, we see the Danish Resistance as they manage to smuggle almost the entire Jewish population, nearly seven thousand people, across the sea to Sweden. In this tale of an entire nation's heroism, Lois Lowry reminds us that there is pride and human decency in the world even during a time of terror and war.

so bad

u are so wrong i doubt that u have even read the book it is da best!

I love this book so much! It is very exciting and a little bit of worrying which i think make up part of a book.

Do you like books about action well read number the stars. It takes place in Denmark a small country in Europe. This girl named Annemarie helps her friend Ellen escape from the Nazis. The Nazis took the jew's to a torture camp. I like this book cause I learned a lot about the war. Germany did not like jew's Also I learned about how people escaped. My favorite part was when uncle Hendrick had the casket and tricked the Nazis Solider's. he said it was great Aunt Bertie but it was not. I recommend this book to people who want to learn more about the war.

This book has soul and depth. I love the POV that Annemarie has throughout the book. you should read it.
