A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. And a strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children", an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here - one of whom was his own grandfather - were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow - impossible though it seems - they may still be alive. A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

This book was really interesting. Jacob has been told stories of peculiar children by his grandfather, who claims he was in an orphanage with them. After watching his grandfather get killed by a monster, he visits the orphanage to uncover something bigger than he expected.

this book was awesome, weird, and a little inappropriate. i just finished this book today.

This book is so good. Although there is some language, it is mostly age appropriate. There a natural-seeming boy who visits an island to find out about his Grandfathers past. He meets a set of strange children, each one with their own peculiarity. He finds creepy pictures along the way being a disbeliever. Can he figure out the mystery, save the peculiars, and is he one himself? I urge you to read and find out! Reply to find out more. I hope to read the 2nd and 3rd book.

the springs up your ... in the car

Jacob, a normal boy with a normal life. Aha, no. He is peculiar, but doesn't know it. At a young age he is told stories from his grandfather. But getting older, he believes they're only fairytales. This, until his grandfather's death comes, and Jacob sees the monsters. Getting into therapy he was put to believe it was all his imagination. That until he visits the island were Miss Peregrine and the peculiars live. Finding a loop to the olden says. He now understands everything. Finding out why the kids have to stay hidden, and finding he could see the monsters...just like is grandfather could.

Love this book!!!!

Don't you just love when a book is so good that you "must" keep reading? "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" by Ransom Riggs, had all the twists and turns I was looking for. Every page you turn will be followed by another just as magnificent. The plot was easy to grasp and helped created a visual in my head. This book takes place during World War II on an Island in Wales. Jacob is told too go to Cairnholm, Wales by his dying grandpa who was kill by a Wight (Hollow). On the Island Jacob finds Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. He meets a wonderful peculiar girl named Emma whom he falls in loves with. Jacob finds his peculiar ability, and is forced to fight off the Hollowghasts. Their Ymbryne, Miss. Peregrine, Is captured by the Hollowghasts. Will Jacob and the Peculiars save Miss Peregrine and manage to escape the Island? This Plot was so perfectly set up that this book has earned a 10/10 in my opinion.

This was the best book I have ever read. It had it all. Adventure, romance, horror, humor, you name it.

I read the first one for book club and it was awesome!!! highly recommend you read it before december when the first movie comes out.
