This Newbery Honor-winning, hilarious Floridian adventure involves new kids, bullies, alligators, eco-warriors, pancakes, pint-sized owls, and more. A New York Times bestseller!

Everybody loves Mother Paula’s pancakes. Everybody, that is, except the colony of cute but endangered owls that live on the building site of the new restaurant. Can the awkward new kid and his feral friend prank the pancake people out of town? Or is the owls’ fate cemented in pancake batter?

I thought that this book was really good. Roy moves to a new town, school, and is having trouble making friends/fitting in. He spots something intriguing but someone tried to stop him. Later on he finds out that he needs to save something more than having a breakfast place right in his town. Roy tells the school bully something that made the bully tried to steal something. He ended up somewhere unpleasant. Roy then helps his new friends save the little animals. The day of the construction site groundbreaking was when something exciting happened. Roy's friend (ran away from family) does something heroically and his mom tries to claim she is brave of him. The ending of that ended very well, but Roy's friend doesn't have a very happy ending.

Hoot is an AMAZING book! It is so fun to see how all of the characters actions effect the story so much. Roy is a caring, smart and curious kid. He goes through a lot of challenges. That is actually not the best part .The best part is that we get to see it in other peoples perspectives. Not only Roy goes through these challenges. Mullet Fingers, Beatrice, Dana, Curly, and etc. go through them as well. At first it is mystery but as you get into the book it makes more sense. It is pretty cool to see how the problems in the book get created and how they get solved. That is why Hoot is an AMAZING book.

I just finished Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. It is a very good book! It has an interesting story and plot. The way he had two different stories at the beginning and eventually they came together was a really good way of writing the book. But I do have to say, there are some bad words in it. No major bad words, but still. If you like animals, this book is good for you! It is kind of a mystery, action, and adventure book all mixed in one. Here is a quick summary of the plot (without spoilers): Roy Eberhardt moved from Michigan to Florida. He didn't want to move because he loved Michigan! He was bullied by a kid named Dana who was way bigger than him! On the bus, he saw a running boy. He didn't have shoes and his clothes looked worn out. He ran off the bus to chase him. He ran into this girl named Beatrice, who was also way bigger than him. They eventually became friends. A Mother Paula's Pancake House was being built. Someone kept vandalizing the construction site, but nobody knew who. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to spoil, but I recommend Hoot by Carl Hiaasen!

Hoot by Carl Hiaasen is about Roy Eberhardt and his journey to save the owls. One day on the bus he sees a boy running without shoes, and tries to follow him the following day. He befriends him and a jock along the way, but they face challenges at every corner. Vandals happen at the construction site that delay the construction. An outlaw, the new kid and the jock, all trying to save the owls.

Amazing book, and the end rivals the end of Percy Jackson. Just, don't let a second grader read.

Moving form one school to another can not be easy, especially when you have to save a flock of owls.In this story Roy Eberhardt moved from his old home Montana to find himself in coconut cove florida. where instead of studying at night he is planning to save owls from being buried from the construction of a mother paula's all American Pancakes. Can He do it, will the owls live? Or will they all die? I hope you have a Hoot Reading the book.
