Nicholas Allen has plenty of ideas. Who can forget the time he turned his third-grade classroom into a tropical island, or the times he fooled his teacher by chirping like a blackbird? But now Nick's in fifth grade, and it looks like his days as a troublemaker are over. Everyone knows that Mrs. Granger, the language arts teacher, has X-ray vision, and nobody gets away with anything in her classroom. To make matters worse, she's also a fanatic about the dictionary, which is hopelessly boring to Nick. But when Nick learns an interesting tidbit about words and where they come from, it inspires his greatest plan yet: to invent a new word. From now on, a pen is no longer a pen -- it's a frindle. It doesn't take long for frindle to take root, and soon the excitement spreads well beyond his school and town. His parents and Mrs. Granger would like Nick to put an end to all this nonsense. But frindle doesn't belong to Nick anymore. All he can do now is sit back and watch what happens.
This quirky, imaginative tale about creative thought and the power of words will have readers inventing their own words. Brian Selznick's black-and-white illustrations enhance the humor in this unforgettable story.

Ever wonder how words are invented? Well, this might be a funny way to find out how a word might get invented. The story was believable. This is my favorite story by Andrew Clements. Go buy it. I hope it's not sold out!

I really like this book. It was the book that got me hooked on Andrew Clements' books! Now, whenever I can find them, I read his books. I think that the cover that they put on here looks really weird, not like the one that I have at all.

This is about a cool boy named Nicholas Allen makes a new word to know if his teacher is correct. He does it by going to a store and buy pens(frindle)over and over, until every one understands what frindle means.I was surprised when I heard that we can change some nouns if we try heard!

this book is so funny i mean frindle what the heck

i enjoyed this book so much and it even maKES ME THINK AT home instead of saying pen i say FRINDLE

This book shows free spirit and trying too sneak your way out of homework. It tells the story of a young boy that events a new word for a word that's already been invented the pen and he calls it the frindle.

It's a good book which does for fine for fifth-graders and this is a book which we're reading now. It's about Nick inventing the new name "Frindle" instead of a pen. Next...... Na I don't want to spoil it. If you want to know it then the best way is to read this book. The pro of this book is that you'll have more knowledge on vocabulary and reading skills. I wish I could quickly finish this book's ending and check the ending out. Anyway what a strong book with strong verbs and adjectives!1

I loved this book! Its really good because a kid believes he make a word to replace "pen" and names it "frindle". Everyone else calls it frindle, the teacher gets mad, but he stood up and..... (read the book!)
