Holy unanticipated occurrences! A cynic meets an unlikely superhero in a genre-breaking new novel by master storyteller Kate DiCamillo.
It begins, as the best superhero stories do, with a tragic accident that has unexpected consequences. The squirrel never saw the vacuum cleaner coming, but self-described cynic Flora Belle Buckman, who has read every issue of the comic book Terrible Things Can Happen to You!, is just the right person to step in and save him. What neither can predict is that Ulysses (the squirrel) has been born anew, with powers of strength, flight, and misspelled poetry — and that Flora will be changed too, as she discovers the possibility of hope and the promise of a capacious heart. From #1 New York Times best-selling author Kate DiCamillo comes a laugh-out-loud story filled with eccentric, endearing characters and featuring an exciting new format — a novel interspersed with comic-style graphic sequences and full-page illustrations, all rendered in black-and-white by up-and-coming artist K. G. Campbell.

It had a good story. However, it is strange that at first, I thought it was realistic fiction, and then, I realized there was a squirrel that could type. I am now up to the part when flora and her dad are going to kill ulysses (Ulysses is the name of the squirrel.) I don't want to find out what happens next. (at the same time, I kind of do want to find out what they do.)
THis book was okay. I don't usually get into Kate DiCamillo's books, but especially not this one. It is a very weird mix between realistic fiction and fantasy. I think that if the squirrel didn't have magical powers it would have been better (not that i don't like magic, it just didn't do well in this one).
I actually find that kate dicamillo's books are really good but I do agree, this is not her best one. You should really read the book, "The miraculous journey of edward tulane".
I have to read this book (after i finish the fire within series wich is like 7-8 books)
Is this a comic book?
Flora loves to read a certain comic strip, but other than that, not that much. Flora saves a squirrel that has powers. Did you hear that it won the 2013 newberry metal?
Sort of. It has a lot of pictures, it's short, and there are a couple little fake comics flora makes up, but besides that, it is a regular chapter book.
