This first book in Veronica Roth's #1 New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy is the novel the inspired the major motion picture starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet. This dystopian series set in a futuristic Chicago has captured the hearts of millions of teen and adult readers.

Perfect for fans of the Hunger Games and Maze Runner series, Divergent and its sequels, Insurgent and Allegiant, are the gripping story of a dystopian world transformed by courage, self-sacrifice, and love. Fans of the Divergent movie will find the book packed with just as much emotional depth and exhilarating action as the film, all told in beautiful, rich language.

One choice can transform you. Beatrice Prior's society is divided into five factions—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Beatrice must choose between staying with her Abnegation family and transferring factions. Her choice will shock her community and herself. But the newly christened Tris also has a secret, one she's determined to keep hidden, because in this world, what makes you different makes you dangerous.

And don't miss Veronica Roth’s thrilling novel Carve the Mark.

We trusted you V.Roth and you just....

I loved this book! I've already taken online tests and I've determined that I'm Erudite.

Everybody likes this. I might have to read this, too, even though I don't usually like dystopian books.

Okay everybody, before you get your pitchforks and hunt me down listen to my reasons. I love the dystopian kind of theme and this was just spot on with the images I kind of think of when I think 'dystopian.' The book was amazingly written and everything was in perfect sequence, but I just couldn't get into it. The author is extremely talented and is good at the visuals, but I think she needs to work on conjuring emotions a bit more. When people die in book that I really like I usually have a bit of waterworks going, but in this book there was none. Nada. Zip. Zero. I think Four (Tobias) is the freaking best person ever. Oh. And by the way, I so called it in like chapter 6. Dude. Their relationship isn't perfect and I LOVED IT!!! "I might be in love with you," He says smiling a little, "but I'm waiting until I'm sure to tell you." Best. Line. Ever. (Seriously. Love it.) But the thing was, Four was a super cold brained jerk in the beginning. And, I don't know, sarcasm. I just love it guys. Love it. "I thought I would only have trouble with the Candor asking questions," he says coldly, "Now I've got Stiffs too?" "It must be because you're so approachable." I say flatly. "You know. Like a bed of nails." So yeah. three and a half stars.

i love this book i have read this book about 9 times and still it doesn't get old. i love it so much.

Wow. That's all I can say. This book is about Beatrice Prior, an girl who was first in the faction Abnegation, the selfless. Since she was little, she knew she didn't fit in. She didn't fit in ANY faction. It was too easy for her to lie, so she wasn't Candor, she wasn't always so selfless, so she couldn't be Abnegation, and on. She was Divergent. Divergent is an mix between all of the factions. On choosing day, she chooses Dauntless, the brave, and immediately makes friends and rivals. She makes friends with Al, Will, and Christina. When the Euderite actually had a plan a along to control the Dauntless and attack the Abnegation with them, Beatrice (who changed her name to Tris) has to find a way to save them with a few people.

there is a movie coming out for this! i would looovee to see it! I was dauntless, my friend was abnegation!

divergent is an amazing, emotional, original, surprising book. each character is carefully crafted and a deep backstory lies behind each mask of characters. definitely recommended for EVERYONE!!

This book is very similar to the hunger games and was recommended to me by my friend. I can't wait to read it.
