This first book in Veronica Roth's #1 New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy is the novel the inspired the major motion picture starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet. This dystopian series set in a futuristic Chicago has captured the hearts of millions of teen and adult readers.

Perfect for fans of the Hunger Games and Maze Runner series, Divergent and its sequels, Insurgent and Allegiant, are the gripping story of a dystopian world transformed by courage, self-sacrifice, and love. Fans of the Divergent movie will find the book packed with just as much emotional depth and exhilarating action as the film, all told in beautiful, rich language.

One choice can transform you. Beatrice Prior's society is divided into five factions—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Beatrice must choose between staying with her Abnegation family and transferring factions. Her choice will shock her community and herself. But the newly christened Tris also has a secret, one she's determined to keep hidden, because in this world, what makes you different makes you dangerous.

And don't miss Veronica Roth’s thrilling novel Carve the Mark.

Love this book. I read it in 1 week. I thought it was great. The kids in my class were obsessed last year and I never got around to reading it. Finally got around to reading it this year and I loved it SOOOO much.

hi love this book it is absolutely awesome and i completely recomend it for anyone looking for a good book

Ever thought of reading Divergent? An honest opinion from a science fiction reader is here to help for a review. Divergent by Veronica Roth, published on April 25, 2011, is a great science fiction packed book for some, but for others it might be boring book thinking it is a waste of time. This book is great if you love science fiction, even if you don't, it is still a great book because some parts of the book it can be compared to in the real world very easily. Divergent is a science fiction book although it does not have too much fictional elements like most science fiction books, making it easier to understand. I would rate this book 4.5 stars out of 5 because although I might not like the story, I think the book would be a great book for others. Divergent is a book taking place in a city where there are five factions, each faction describing a personality people have in common that are in the faction. Beatrice or Tris, however is part of three factions, Erudite Abnegation and Dauntless, making her divergent. Being divergent is rare in the city. Beatrice joins dauntless and renames to Tris later on in the book, she later on meets Tobias or “Four” and become good friends, they both are also divergent, later on in the book they fight together from a zombie apocalypse. Tris fights through obstacles throughout the book sometimes alongside Tobias, protecting themselves from the chaos other factions cause by fighting each other. The setting is around modern time and takes place in Chicago. The book was not enjoyable at times because some parts of the book last long, for example, the book would take too much ch time on one problem or main idea of the story. The book can be related to the Maze Runner because they are both fighting for the same idea, survival. The author Veronica Roth had an amazing success with the trilogy of Divergent and is a college student. I have read many science fiction books before, along with realistic fiction, many of which I enjoyed and the reviews on the books were close to my reviews. A type of reader that might enjoy this book is someone who read and enjoyed The Hunger Games because the problems they are facing. The factions from Divergent can relate to the districts in The Hunger Games.

I absolutely love the setting. This could definitely happen in the future. however, I would not recommend this for small children

Did you like the Hunger Games series? Want a book that's even better? Then Divergent is the book for you. Divergent is an eye-catching book from the start. It's very well written and I love that Veronica, the author includes different scenarios throughout the book. Tris the antagonist will fight the Erudite-Dauntless army. This book takes place in Chicago, with five different factions, Erudite, Candor, Dauntless, Abnegation, and Amity. When your sixteen you can then choose your own faction. But one choice can destroy you, for the rest of your life. Will Tris and Four be enough to fight the Erudite-Dauntless army? Or will they fail to succeed? Find out by reading the Diveregent series.

The main characters was Tris and Four, they try to fight against other groups and protecting each other by revealing the real threat. The main character run into many problems they betrayed each other some with others and didn't know to trust who? My favorite was Tris because, she was different compared to all the other characters. I love this book 10/10 no changes need to be made, i do recommended for everyone it great.

If you've read the Hunger Games, watch out Katniss. Tris is stepping up to home plate. If you thought The Hunger Games was great then read Divergent. With action, adventure, snd anything you could imagine.

awesome connection. I love both of these and totally agree that Divergent is better! sorry Katniss!

Divergent is amazing. It is full of adventure, romance, sabatoge and amazing events. I was freaking out on how great this was. If you finish this book, you will know how great this is!!!!!😍😘

Divergent is a book that talks about a girl named Tris who lives in a society where there is 5 different groups of people. But Tris was not in any of the 5 group, and she is a divergent. After she fell in love with another divergent call four. They try to fight against the other groups together. I think the part that the author did well was to discribe the book really well and all the small details i the story which really makes the reader blend into it.

Divergent is about a girl called Tris, who lives in a world which had a divided society. Although Tris didn't fit in to any of the societies, she was different. She was a group of special people that were told to be threatful to the society. Although the truth wasn't as told, there was a divided society called the Erudite who were trying to rule but the divergent were the only threat to their plan. This book was unique and special that kept the readers reading and couldn't put it down.
