Jess Aarons' greatest ambition is to be the fastest runner in his grade. He's been practicing all summer and can't wait to see his classmates' faces when he beats them all. But on the first day of school, a new girl boldly crosses over to the boys' side and outruns everyone.
That's not a very promising beginning for a friendship, but Jess and Leslie Burke become inseparable. Together, they create Terabithia, a magical kingdom in the woods where the two of them reign as king and queen, and their imaginations set the only limits. Then one morning a terrible tragedy occurs. Only when Jess is able to come to grips with this tragedy does he finally understand the strength and courage Leslie has given him.

This book is so amazing but so sad at the same time. Jesse lives in a quiet rural area and he wants to be the fastest runner in the 4th grade, and possibly the whole school. He is getting close to reaching his dream when new neighbors move in and a new girl named Leslie comes to school. They become great friends and together the create Terabithia, which is a marvelous kingdom full of adventure in every corner. Soon after a horrifying incident occurs that ends their friendship in the living world, but Jesse realizes that his relationship with Leslie will go on forever no matter what may have happened.
This is a story of imagination, excitement, wonder and friendship. Jesse lives in a rural area is quiet, alone and independent. His major goal in life is to be the fastest runner in his grade, and hopefully in the whole school. He is close to reaching his dream when a new girl comes to school. Leslie is a smart, wise and strange girl who is ever faster than the quickest runner in school. Jesse absolutely detests her in the beginning, but eventually they develop a friendship. Together they defeat a bully, and create Terabithia, a marvellous kingdom where adventure begins in every corner and that is completely made out of their imagination. However, a horrifying incident occurs, and their friendship seems to end right then and there. In the aftermath of it all, Jesse realizes that no matter what, Leslie's relationship with Jesse will be never-ending.
This book is a great book but so sad😢😢
I don't want to give anything away, but when the tragedy comes, I like how the author puts the tragedy in a dream but then it really happens. I also agree with @tuttie2003. Jesse and Leslie are always connected.
I think this book really tells you about the power of friendship and what it's like to deal with loss. The loss of Leslie was really sad for Jess and he knew he would never forget her. Jess will never forget her because of the friendship they had. He has a blank place in his mind that he wants to close and I think that's why he acts the way he did. Even though at some points after Leslie dies Jess says he hates Leslie but I don't think he does. Personally, I think the brige to teribithia is actually a bridge connecting them when she is in heaven.
