Try to imagine this: An child genius named Artemis. Fairies. Kidnapping. Ransom. Leprechauns. Now connect them together. Impossible, right? No, it's not. I'll tell you why.. Captain Holly is not your average Fairy. Or Leprechaun. She is the only female Sprite, or fairy to be in the LEPrecon unit. Instead of those tiny cute 'pot at the end of the rainbow people', this is real. This is their police. This is what keeps the magical community together. But then, there is Artemis. An child prodigy. It's a shame that he's a criminal mastermind. At the age of 12. All because he basically does not have parents. His dad, believed to be dead, is no where to be found. His mom started going crazy after her husband "died." Artemis's family used to be rich.. until Artemis Senior, his father died. Now, all their wealth is gone. Artemis is determined to get back their family's wealth, and will stop at nothing to get it. Even if no one believes in those fairies. But Artemis knows they're real, and has a plan to capture one. Now, can you connect the dots? Holly is taken for ransom. Gold Ignots, to be exact. Still, the longer he keeps Holly, he knows that the situation will soon spiral out of control. Now, all that matters is if Artemis is willing to go and save both the human race and the fairy race.. Before they both have the biggest war they will ever have. But still, Artemis will stop at nothing to get the gold.. But the LEPrecon unit will stop at nothing to get back Holly..

Join the world of "Artemis Fowl", the number one bestseller by Eoin Colfer. Rumour has it Artemis Fowl is responsible for every major crime of the new century. Just twelve years old and already he's a criminal genius, plotting to restore his family's fortune with a spot of corruption and kidnapping. Kidnapping a fairy for ransom, to be precise. Artemis Fowl has discovered a world below ground of armed and dangerous - and extremely high-tech - fairies. But he may have underestimated their powers. They will fight back. Is the boy about to trigger a cross-species war? Let the misadventure begin. "Fast-paced, tongue in cheek ...laugh-out-loud". ("Sunday Times"). "A huge hit". ("The Guardian"). "Artemis is a brilliant creation". (Anthony Horowitz). Winner of the WHSmith Children's Book of the Year Award and Children's Book of the Year at the Children's Book Awards. It is shortlisted for the Whitbread Children's Book of the Year Award. Eoin Colfer was born and raised in Wexford in the south-east of Ireland. He began writing plays at an early age and, as an adult, continued to write. "Artemis Fowl", his first book featuring the brilliant young anti-hero, was an immediate international bestseller and won several prestigious awards.

Lots of suspense, in a way its similar to percy jackson. His other books are pretty good.
An AMAZING book! It manages to keep a balance between fairy tales and criminals keeping you on the edge of your seat. And the coolest thing is the mastermind behind the entire thing, IS 12!
